lalicopa: (laszlo's smarter than you)
A few weeks ago I heard Laszlo talking to Lily. She accidentally said, "Back when I was a little boy..." Laszlo said, "Lily, you used to be a little boy? What happened, you had gender assignment surgery?"

I jumped in. I asked what he was talking about. He said, "Mommy, you told me that people can change their gender by gender assignment surgery."

I had no recollection of that conversation, but I DO tell them stuff like that if the subject comes up. I told him it was gender REassignment surgery. But like, months ago. And he remembered it. The kid's brain is such a vault, and he uses everything appropriately, even if it's just been filed away for ages.

I went to Laszlo's "Writers' Celebration" in his class. One of the boys was having some difficulty reading and Laszlo said, "Frankie needs to practice his fluency." I almost choked on my corn muffin.

Ella will be three in a month. She is so gorgeous and funny that she takes my breath away. She is obsessed with Yo Gabba Gabba. She has the small figurines of the characters and she sits quietly for hours making them talk to each other and sing the songs from the show. She adds other toys to the mix. I have to videotape her because it's so precious and funny.

Robert bought her a Barbie doll the other day and she keeps calling it "Barley." So now I ask her to say the doll's name and she says, "Barley is a dinosaur, magic magic-ation."

She's also started calling me Momma instead of Mommy. All the kids did this for some reason and I just love it every time. The other two went back to Mommy after a while...I'm hoping Ella sticks with the Momma.

Lily is still all that's sweet and good in the world, but she has been feeling her oats a little and being a bit annoying. She's been deliberately irritating Laszlo and Ella and even me sometimes, just to get a reaction. I guess being good becomes boring after a while - not that I'd know. ;-)

Ella has some funny words...

She calls Laszlo, "Da-dush"
She still says, "Ahhh" before things she wants. Like, "Ahhhhh-mook" etc.
The other day she woke up and said, "Ahhhh-eekoo, Ahhhhh-eekoo." So I said, "What does that mean Ella?" She said it again a few times and then she just looked at me and said, "Ahhhh-FOOD!" Like, DUH mom!

Also, she's working on her animal sounds...she says, "Pa pa" for sheep sounds and "Hayyyyyyyy" for what a horse says.
lalicopa: (ella's second bday)
...and not in a good way. Ella has been little Miss Destructo lately and I can't take it. She is a whirling dervish, she just wrecks everything in her path. I try cleaning up, and she's right behind me taking stuff out and throwing it all over the floor. She opens every drawer, cabinet, laundry bag and just throws stuff all over. She knows she's bad and makes this evil little face when she's been busted. The house literally looks like a tornado came through. I give up.

I guess once she gets to the point where she can actually understand consequences, it will be easier...but nothing's been working.

She's lucky she's so freakin' gorgeous, I tell you all...because I'd have her up for sale.

To my sweet Ella Bella Boo...

You are my best surprise ever. Your gorgeous face never fails to make me smile. The personality oozes from you and envelops everyone around you. People can't keep their hands out of your Shirley Temple curls. And you have no problem letting them know you hate when people touch those curls.

You're the best sleeper...still taking 3 hour naps pretty much daily and then sleeping through the night. (Damn, hope that didn't just jinx me forever). You wake up happy. Always.

We already feel like you're going to be the kind of kid who all the girls want to be friends with and all the boys want to date. And you're smart and devilish in the best way. You're a superstar.

I love you so much. Happy birthday my angel baby.

(pics to follow when I either get my USB ports fixed or upload to Robert's or Laszlo's computer and put them on the network)

I cannot believe Ella's turning TWO tomorrow. I need a new icon to show her complete gorgeousness and personality. She was less than a year old in this icon pic and that's SO not who she is anymore.

I've been sick for a week. This is the longest I've been sick in many years. I can't remember the last time. I went three whole days with NO voice. It's still very hoarse, but it's getting back. I was able to take a few naps, which is rare and awesome.

Today I ventured out a bit with my mom and the girls. Ella's a nightmare to take anywhere. She's the kid who runs off in stores and doesn't answer to her name. I always thought those leashes people put on their kids were horrifying, but now I totally see their purpose. She's a leash kid. She wriggles out of her stroller and screams when she's not moving. She's ok if I hold her, but my back just started feeling better (since she waited until 19 months to start walking) and I'm not really interested in carrying her and her 27 pounds around. We went to the mall because Laszlo needed a new winter coat and Lily needed sweaters. It was eerily uncrowded.

When Laszlo got home, I told him I got him a new coat because his old one was getting small. He paused, then said, "Mom!?! I'm getting bigger, my coat's not getting SMALLER!" Like duh.

So I've been chilling since we got home and now I have a horrible headache. It's that sinus-y headache. The kind that aches on an entire side of my head, and feels like my teeth are all loose on that side. I took two Aleve, but I think I'll end up at the doctor after all. Just when I thought I had this beat without antibiotics. Well, we'll see how I am tomorrow. I'm so not looking forward to letting a sinus infection fester for any length of time...when I get the bad ones, there is nothing that relieves the pain other than at least 24 hours on antibiotics.

Ick. I wanted to avoid going. Oh well.

Ella's up from her nap. Joy. Lucky she's the cutest thing ever.

Yay me!

I've always wanted to make ruffle-bottom pants. Basically, all I ever sew is a straight line. I tried using patterns a few years back and got scared of them, so they've been packed away for years now.

Last night I was browsing on etsy and I found a super cute pattern for toddler ruffle pants. This evening I decided to sit down and give it a shot. It took me about an hour (it would probably take the seamstresses out there a whole ten minutes) but they came out so cute and they actually fit Ella! I used red sushi fabric, mostly because I have a ton of it. I see some pants-making in my very near future. They're just too damn adorable to not make a million pairs of.

I know this doesn't seem like much to those of you who sew, but for me it's a very big deal because I'm trying to grow my business again and adding a whole new *thing* to my stock is so very exciting for me...especially since I always fear the things I've never done creatively.

I want to eat Ella. And Laszlo is talking to Lily in the background on his new walkie talkie thing that Robert got him...Laszlo was in the den with us and Lily was in her room upstairs pretending to have a bad dream involving monsters.

Well, not an epic fail, but still.

I should really know better than to actually document my intentions of doing work. Because something *always* gets in the way.

Ella, my rambunctious little angel, naps for 2 1/2 to 3 hours every day. Every day.

Today? No. Nap. None. I put her to bed, but she was screaming. Non. Stop.

I think the teeth she's getting are hurting her. She's not unhappy. She just didn't want that nap.

It wasn't a total waste of motivation...I did get a few things dyed this morning and planned out some others. I'm trying out some new shapes and patterns and I cannot wait until tomorrow morning to wash them out and see if they came out recognizable or just as big messes of color.

This is half way to her pissed off face

Lily called me to the fridge and said, "Mommy, does this spell 'magnets'?" I didn't even look at first, because I thought she was just playing around. Nope. She spelled "magnis" She was SO proud. So was I.

Of course, Laszlo came in and told her that she misspelled it and had to add the T, so she did that and then asked me to take another picture.

She loves to shake her head side to side and make her hair go all over the place. It cracks her up.

When she's done, she's dizzy.

Between 1st grade starting today and being home cleaning with the girls, I was a bit snap happy. So...more pics to come...but I had to post this one first. She walked into the playhouse and grabbed the gun, I grabbed my camera.

She always goes into the dogs' crate (aka "cribbie") but this time she went in and shut the door behind her, sat comfortably on their bed and watched TV for about 10 minutes before letting herself out. She used to go in and play in their water and mess with their food, but this time she was just chillaxin'.

Last night we were all around the dinner table and Robert had made himself a sandwich. Ella was polishing off some watermelon. She started pointing, "Eh! Eh! Dees!" So Robert gave her a piece of ham from his sandwich, which she promptly refused with an unmistakable NO. "Eh! Eh! Eh! Dees!!!!" So he handed her a piece of cheese from his sandwich. No. Round three...he gave her some bread. No.

Finally, he figured he'd offer her the sandwich.

Guess what?

Yesterday I was nursing Ella. I asked her if she was a good girl, she nodded yes and then laughed. I asked her if she loved milk. She nodded and laughed. I asked her if she loved Lily and Laszlo. She nodded and laughed. I asked her if she loved Mommy. She opened her mouth with that toothy face and said, "Da da."

We had Kibbles groomed today, so her little foot pads are very visible. Lily said, "Aww, Kibbies, I can see your paw print." She thinks the paw is a paw print because of Blue's Clues (I'm assuming that's where it's from.)

Also, my mom bought Lily a baby doll recently and it came with a very realistic looking bottle of milk. Ella keeps holding it and "drinking" it, making all these mouth noises and funny puckery faces. I can count on one hand the number of actual bottles Ella has drank from. She's such a lil kook.
