Sort of disgusted

Robert came home early so we went with my sister in law and niece (my bro was away) to a new burger place that opened.

It's a very small place, only about 8 tables. There seems to be a lot of waiters. The menu is great, lots of fried stuff, lots of burgers (beef, kobi beef, veggie, turkey, lamb) and nice sides.

We were about to order, and I saw a small sign on the wall. It said, "We cook in peanut oil. We're sorry to all our friends with allergies." *Nothing* on the menu, *nothing* on the front door, *nothing* mentioned by the wait staff. If I hadn't seen the teeny sign, we would have gone and ordered Layne (my niece) chicken fingers and fries...without knowing they were all fried in peanut oil. My niece is allergic to peanuts. My sis in law carries and Epipen wherever they go. I was so enraged.

Janet asked the waitress if they had anything that wasn't fried in peanut oil. She said she didn't think so, but would ask in the back. Some guy with a patch over one eye came out and told us that he'd try with vegetable oil. They seemed surprised that we asked...like nobody had asked before. I guess that's highly possible since there is only ONE sign and it's minute. I took a picture on my cell phone, I'll upload it and post it later on when I'm able to get my stuffed belly off the couch.

I feel that it's irresponsible at best, criminal at worst.

A day in the life. Honestly, people don't get it unless you go into ana right in front of htem (and I've heard of people who were blamed for being dramatic when that happened!).

Someday stuff like this won't be an issue. Thanks for being a good aunt :-). The food allergic moms do appreciate it.

But yeah, let's fry their asses in peanut oil. And like you'd have even ALLOWED her to eat it.."Uh, I think we can TRY to make her something." OUTTA THERE!

Yikes! That is really scary. So glad you noticed the sign!

wow. that is a disaster waiting to happen! so many people don't get allergy - they don't understand it or they think it is a crock or something. asthma less so but similar.

Wow, that's awful. The one place around here that uses peanut oil (Five Guys, which has awesome burgers and fries) has HUGE signs all over the front door and at the counter, there's no possible way you could miss them. Of course, they also have peanuts in the shell for customers to eat. I'm not sure it would be safe for a peanut-allergic person to even step foot into the store.

You know, I have never noticed signs, anywhere, even in places that I know use it. My friend's little girl is so very allergic, just being in the same room with someone that has eaten anything peanutty, makes her react. I know that they never ever eat out anywhere, anymore, since they have no way to know for sure which places are safe for her to eat.

This pisses me off.
