Stuff

I feel like every room in my house has gotten out of my hands. And as soon as I manage to tame one room and move onto the next, the first one gets messy again. It's not dirty, I just have untidy surfaces. Like everywhere. Like there's *stuff* on every flat surface in my entire house. Magazines I need to read, things I need to file, pictures I need to put in albums (that is something I haven't done in almost a YEAR), discs, receipts...and all that is just on my desk in the office. There's crap in the kids' room that needs putting away. The only place I have managed to keep orderly is the basement, which is ironic since it's the place where 90% of the toys are. It's also the room we spend the most time in, so I can straighten up while the kids play. Upstairs are the bedrooms, and I just never get enough time/energy to tackle it. I'm lucky enough to have a cleaning woman once a week, so she neatly stacks all the shit I have lying around.

I guess I should spend less time online and more time getting this place in order. I just don't know where to start. Fuck flylady.

Oh man, I can so relate. Too many piles and stuff. I've been working on them little by little -- one night I take a few minutes and clean up a bookshelf, another night, I go through a pile. It didn't pile up overnight, and it won't be straightened out overnight either, but every little bit helps. (((HUGS)))

Oops. Shrimp spotted your user icon.....

I have the exact same problem, the pile of paperwork needing filing that's sitting next to me right now is about to slide on the floor.

In terms of where to start, the very few times I actually get off my arse to do stuff I usually start in the kitchen to make sure that is tidy first, then do the areas that people would see (in our house that is the loungeroom), then do the filing and then continue to ignore the bedrooms. The kitchen is my DH's hotpoint and if I leave it for him to put stuff away he just piles it on the edge of the bench, which drives me nuts, or puts it "away" which could be practically anywhere he found an empty spot and I may never, ever see it again.

Honestly, though, it is good to know I'm not the only one who can't keep a grip on these things. maybe we just need to suck it up and realize mommies don't have time to do everything?

i hear that one-the kitchen is a nightmare right now, and this is After we cleaned the table off last night, and we spent all day monday (until about 11ish) cleaning the workroom so that we can actually use it as a study room...

I agree with the Flylady stuff. But my mom's comments are flying in my ears all the time ("I'm lazy. I put things in the right place the first time, so I don't have to do it again later"...bitch.) We got rid of a TON of stuff, so we try to not have that many things around, and that really helps.

I was going to do so much in my maternity leave before YoungBloke was born, and when nesting hit.

I went into labour 2 days after leaving work, and got nothing done. Now I keep saying "well, I'll do that when he goes to school".

Only 3 years to go...
