Ode to Joe

Ok, I admit it. I LOVE Joe vs The Volcano. I think it's one of the best movies ever. I know I'm very alone in this, but I swear, I am glued to the screen whenever it's on. I loved it the first time I saw it in the theater and every time I've caught it on cable ever since.

ARGH

It's been one of those days. Lily had 2 shots yesterday and she was up from 12-3 am. She's never had any kind of reaction before, so I'm not quite sure if that was it or if it was something else (like another tooth trying to pop its way out). In any case, I started the day exhausted. Of course, the phone starts ringing at 8:45 am so I didn't even really get to enjoy sleeping in.

Then my mom came over to drop off some Chanukah gifts for the kids. She got Laszlo a recorder, which she knows he already has. Whatever. She also got him this prism thing to look through that he likes. And she bought Lily a tea set that's really for Laszlo, but I guess none of us could justify getting this flowery tea set for my almost 3 year old boy. In any case, he loves it. She already bought the kids the Fisher Price Learning Home, which they both really like.

Ok, so that wasn't so bad.

Then I took the kids to BJ's because we needed some staples. I made sure we parked near a "car wagon" so Laszlo would be happy. I was pulling out of the spot to get into it better and some asshole was behind me honking up a storm. I had already been backing up by the time she turned into my row in the lot, but she still felt the urge to sit on that horn. I was very tempted to roll down my window and yell, "Your horn blows, but does your mom?" - one of my favorites from high school. I held back. Bitch. Some nice guy said, "Wow, she really likes her horn," as soon as I got out of the car, so at least I knew I wasn't totally insane.

The kids were HORRIBLE in BJ's. Laszlo was getting frustrated with anything I gave him to occupy himself. He was screaming at Lily and swatted at her a few times when she tried to touch whatever it was he was holding. She wanted to be held, so I carried her for a while on my left hip (no carrier stupidly, just my arms) and pushed this mammoth wagon around the store. It was one of those things where a dozen different people stopped to tell me how hard it looked like I was working, how I must be a body builder, how I "really have my hands full", etc, but none of them offered to help. Happy holidays.

Finally got them home, then Laszlo started crying that he had to make a doodie. He says, "I clean your doodie" when he's about to go or just after he's gone. He started screaming, which I know by now means he's constipated. He was struggling and screaming and grabbing at his tush. I gave him a pediatric enema (which I resort to in cases like these because he was just in so much pain) and he continued to scream his lungs out for a good half hour. Nothing I could do would make him feel better. It took him a while to go. Poor lil guy. But the screaming was going right through me. At least he finally went, and as soon as he had a clean diaper on, he was happy as can be. Note to self: Benefiber *every* day, not just the days he doesn't go.

Lily woke up miserable and it took me a while to console her. By the time I turned around, it was 5:00 and Robert was on his way home. I told him about my day, which is usually futile, but tonight he seemed to understand for some reason. I guess he could just see it in my face once he got home. I'm spent.

So now it's 7:30 pm, Lily just settled down to sleep and Robert's got Laszlo in the den playing. We've all had dinner. The house is a WRECK, but I have no strength left to clean, and I'm in one of those moods where I won't be able to totally relax because I know the house looks like shit and I could be doing something to change that.

We have our last day of Music Together tomorrow, which I'd totally blow off, but we haven't been in a few weeks and I think we should at least go to the last class before the next session starts in January. Laszlo's gotten pretty good in that class and I think if I skip this week, he'll forget how good he has been and revert in January. We'll see. Gotta take the stinky mutts to be groomed tomorrow too - before music class - so we'll see if I actually get my ass out the door that early.

Enough bitching. I think I'm going to take myself a nice leisurely walk to the yogurt store and get myself a sickeningly huge portion of frozen yumminess. Shit, I deserve it.
