Basement, etc.
Oct. 17th, 2005 01:30 pmWell, insurance doesn't cover the damage we have, so that pretty much sucks. Robert and I took all the carpet out, about 90 square yards. He cut it and I dragged it all up the stairs and to the curb. I left the really wet stuff unrolled on the driveway to dry out, so I can roll it and bind it more easily for pickup. Good thing I'm a fucking animal. My mother says I come from peasant stock.
Anyway, we picked out some really pretty carpet and I'm excited about getting it, although it's gonna take at least 2 weeks. Hopefully the time will go quickly.
There have been bags and bags of stuff to donate to charity collecting in my garage. I was planning on taking it in for the last few weeks, but I wanted to make sure I cleaned out all the closets so I didn't have to go twice. Since we needed the space in the garage to store the stuff from the basement, I brought it all over there today. It's so satisfying. There's a church in the town I used to live in and they have a huge community outreach program. While I was there, people in need were already looking through the stuff. Another woman took a toy right from my hand and thanked me profusely. Nothing makes ya feel quite as good as doing good for others. The tax write-off is a nice bonus as well.
Laszlo's taking the bus home from school today for the first time and I'm a bit nervous. I know he'll be fine, I'm more nervous about the logistics of it. I'm gonna get my camera out for picture time as he gets off the bus. I'm a geek like that.
Ok, gonna try and see what I can clean up while Lily fights her nap and the boy's in school.
