A few weeks ago, Robert created "the THREE rules" for Laszlo. The rules are; no whining, no hitting and no crying (unless he's hurt or sad). He is totally familiar with the rules and whenever he starts having a tantrum or beating up his sister, Robert says, "Laszlo, what are the three rules?" And then Laszlo answers him. And then stops the behavior.
So the other night we're in bed and Laszlo was hitting Lily to get a toy away from her. Then he started whining and crying (the pattern for which the three rules were created). Robert said, "What are the three rules, Laszlo?" Laszlo said, "No whining, no hitting, no crying. No sharing, there are four rules."
I'm still laughing about it.
For those of you who are about to scold me for teaching my son not to cry, he is well aware of the distinction we're making, he gets in this downward spiral that involves all three of the "rules" and as much as I hate to admit it, Robert actually came up with something that seems to be working. Go figure.
