Gassy Ella
Mar. 4th, 2007 05:45 pmCan Mylicon be constipating? I mean, I thought constipation was only when there was a lack of liquid and there's no lack of liquid in Ella's poop...but (graphic poop mention coming) she has only really gone once a week for the last 2 weeks and when she went it was gargantuan. My friend was holding her today and Ella let out a little fart, but it wasn't a fart...it was a pint of mustard poop. It was coming out the back COLLAR of Ella's shirt. I grabbed her to take her upstairs to clean her off and it was coming out of her pant leg...there was some on arm of the chair, all over my clothes, a pile on the stairs on the way up and that's not even what was in Ella's clothes. It's SO gross. I'd rather change 5 poops a day than have to deal with this. The good part is that she feels a LOT better once it's out. She's a gassy girl and I've been giving her Mylicon...so I was wondering if that could be messing up her poop schedule. I know it's normal for breastfed babies to only poop once a week, but come ON...if that much was backed up in there, she could certainly go more than once.
I posted a message on boob_nazis about her latch...she sucks in air when she nurses and that's why she's gassy. I thought it might be my diet, but it's clear she's swallowing air and I don't know how to stop her from doing it. It only happens for a little bit, but it's enough to give her a belly ache requiring Mylicon.
Ok, that's it. My mom always says newborns are like little chemistry sets...you have to see what you put in and see what comes out to find the right mix...or something like that.
