My hubby's studying a European company that makes diapers...any of you use or heard anything about Moltex diapers? The company he's looking at is called Ontex, they make the diapers for Moltex.

Any info is appreciated...just so I can pass it along to him for his research.

(He's a financial analyst for a hedge fund, in case any of you were wondering why my hubby's interested in European diapers!)

Thanks!

I've bought them before. Unbleached, brown paper ones. A bit expensive, but eco-friendly. Shall I see if I still have any to post to you?

If you do, that would be great! Robert wanted me to try them out, but I can't find them for sale anywhere here.

They're eco-disposables, allegedly; in practice no one has much idea how well they will biodegrade and I don't think many people actively choose them above non-eco-friendly brands. IIRC they're quite expensive compared to other brands, and not all that good - we only used a couple (from a friend's pack) and they all leaked. Which might not be what a hedge fund analyst wants to know, but there it is. :) I don't buy them and wouldn't. (We use a mixture of cloth and supermarket-brand disposables.)

That said, I like the idea of them - bleach-free, potentially not contributing to landfill - and if they have improved the fit since 2003/4 I might be tempted to recommend them to others (cloth users who only use disposables occasionally).

Their "Eco" version is trendy with the crunchy crowd in Germany, those who don't want to use cloth for some reason. It's also the nappy of choice for cloth users who need the occasional disposable, e.g. when they're travelling or whatever. They're the only disposables sold in my local organic shops.

Since YoungBloke's birth they've been my dispo of choice. (We've just bought some Huggies, but that's purely because Moltex doesn't do a pull-up and we're getting near to toilet-training and I think pull-ups might be more acceptable there.) I also have at least one friend who uses them exclusively. But I live in a fairly hippy area.

I'm happy to pay the extra because we use cloth most of the time. I like the fact that they don't smell weird when wet or dirty*. I also like the fact that most of the time they'll do a whole 12 hour night without leaking.

*Except of poo, but I can deal with that!

They're our standard disposable, when we're not using cloth. You just reminded me that I need to put in an order for them so we have some for the hospital! Once I get them, I can send you some newborn ones, if you like.

I love them. We get ours from ecobaby.ie, who has a whole section on them. Apparently, they are vermicompostable (worm), and we're thinking about setting up a wormery just for them, since we pay for our trash collection by weight, and we all know how much those dirty diapers cost. We've found they're better for diaper rash (at least with P) and freaking ROCK.

I've bought them once, they were twice the price of the other brands (Pampers et al) and seemed smaller fitting. I don't remember any leaks in them though.

FWIW, the Dublin maternity hospitals use them as their disposable of choice in the NICU and for emergency use on the wards.

To clarify, I bought the unbleached kind, the hospitals use the bleached variety.
