I realized yesterday after getting a few RSVPs to the kids' party that I scheduled it during a school break - so a few kids are going to be away on vacation...and I still have a bunch that haven't yet responded, so we'll see. DARN. Actually I think it's a good thing, because I got to invite all the kids so nobody gets their feelings hurt, yet I don't have to pay for all these kids in Laszlo's class who he isn't really friends with. He's not gonna care either way.

Oh, and I'll be able to order less pizza probably because some of the families are going to be observing Passover. Woo hoo, score. Yay, more cake for me.

In other news...

I hired a babysitter for one day a week. For the longest time I thought I'd feel like a failure if I couldn't manage the kids by myself. I also felt like a spoiled brat for having someone come into my house and watch my kids while I went food shopping or whatever. But you know what? After Robert suggesting it since Laszlo was born, I finally realize that it's ok to ask for some help, and I'll get used to having this woman here. Plus, the way I met her was just meant to be...

I took Ella for that second checkup and the pediatrician asked how I was managing. I had only met her once before because she's new to the practice, but we hit it off because we are from the same neighborhood and know some of the same people. I told her that people keep telling me I should get some help in the house, but that I'm not comfortable with someone here and that I wouldn't even know how to go about finding someone trustworthy. I also told her that I would only want someone for a few hours per week. She said, "Well, if you're serious, my nanny is looking for some extra time." Turns out she has dwindled her days down because at this practice she only works part time, so Shiroon (the nanny) only works for her three days a week now. I mulled it over for a month, then the next time we went, I asked her again and she said she had mentioned it and Shiroon was very interested. I interviewed her last week and she's a doll. How do you get a better recommendation than the pediatrician's nanny who has worked for her for NINE years?!?! See? Meant to be.

The kids really took to her too...even Ella who screams with most people other than me. She fell asleep in her arms.

The funniest part of the day (to me at least) is when I was taking her back to the train station. Laszlo had gone to school and it was just me and the girls. I like to put Ella in the car first, so I said, "Lily, you know Ella goes in first." So Shiroon repeated it to Lily, only with her accent, "first" sounded more like "forst" - so Lily said, "Mommy, Ella has to go in the forest? The lady said Ella has to go in the forest." Heh.

So, she's starting Tuesday...she'll work from 9:30-3:30. My plan is to take Laszlo alone to his OT, which is from 10-10:30. Then I'll take him out for lunch just me and him, because I don't get to spend much time alone with him. Then I figure I'll drop him off, nurse the baby (but I'll pump for while I'm gone, she did take an ounce and a half from Shiroon while I was with her last week) and then go out alone for a few hours. I don't even know what I'll do with myself, but hopefully I'll get used to it. Of course I can schedule dr's appts and stuff during that time, but I'd really like to get some ME stuff done then and just relax. I'm sure I'll nap a few times too, if she can manage keeping all three kids in the basement.

The more I think of it, the more I'm liking the idea of having time totally to myself. And when I start working again I can have her occupy the kids while I fill orders. Yay.

If the commute wasn't so long, you SO know I'd have you, right? Only I'd never leave, I'd end up bullshitting with you and just hanging out all day.

Honey, take all the help you can get. Srsly. You need that bit of time without someone attached to hip or breast.

It sounds like she was just WONDERFUL. Who could say no to someone like that??

Thanks! My friend made it for her from this pattern: http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/magazine/mag2ndtri/1445260.html

I had seen it when I was first pregnant and fell in love with it! I don't knit, so I was lucky enough to find a friend who was willing to do it for me.
