Robert's on my nerves today. He knows just how to get under my skin, and a rainy Saturday holds me captive to his poking. From the minute I woke up today, he's been getting on me. I made jokes that he took his "annoying pills" today, but he just kept on going until it ended in an argument. He asked me three different times WHY I did things. Why did I put the sticker on the floor to ruin it? (The sticker fell off the chairs we just bought in the office and of course on MY chair, and stuck right on the floor). We got movies from Netflix today, and I ordered them weeks ago but we haven't had time to watch any. He asked if we got any movies and I told him they were movies that we don't want. He said, "Why did you order movies we don't want?" Mind you all, I order all the movies, he could just as easily go online and order them, but he'd rather me do it and then criticize my choices.

Then it started raining a few minutes ago. I accidentally left the grill open when I made myself hot dogs for breakfast (I know, gross). I asked him if the grill was open RIGHT after it started raining, he said, "No, you forgot to close it. I hope it still lights."

I swear, this man gets off on making me feel like shit about stupid things. And if I place blame on him for anything, he freaks out.

Don't get me wrong, he's great most of the time, but when he gets in these moods I could see myself punching him out.

My mom was here for dinner after a long day of arguing with Robert. I went to the basement to get the salad out of the fridge (it didn't fit in the fridge upstairs because it's one of those side by side fridges). I heard water dripping and I looked on the floor near the boiler room and there was a flood. There was water everywhere. Robert came downstairs and freaked out - as did I - and we started double duty filling and emptying large totes that I normally keep Laszlo's toys in. I called the oil company because it was pouring out of the oil burner and they were taking forever to get back to me. Robert suggested calling the fire department, which at first seemed silly to me, but then a good idea. They came within 2 minutes, literally. There were 2 fire engines and an ambulance. There were real live firemen in my house, full gear and all. I think I was more excited than Laszlo...but once they left he was happy to see the lights on the fire engines. Of course all of our new neighbors were outside to see what was going on. Luckily, I've met them all already so it wasn't too awkward going outside to explain that it was just a flood and nothing worse.

Robert ran out to Home Depot and bought a wet/dry vacuum as well as a dehumidifier for the basement. We now have no hot water (or heat, not that it matters in June) until at least Monday when the room is dry enough to power everything back on safely. Also, a lot of switches and nozzles and whoozeewhatsis have to be replaced in order for the stuff to all run properly. All Greek to me.

Robert asked to read my journal, which I knew was going to happen eventually. I wouldn't be comfortable having it out there without him knowing about it at all since I'm typing furiously away at the keyboard while he's on his computer 5 feet away. I guess if he is persistent I'll just let him read it...even if I end up bitching about him here and there (and today I could have bitched a LOT more than I did, I was seething).

Disclaimer for Robert: Honey, I love you. You piss me off sometimes. Sometimes I don't like you. But I always love you. Today you really pissed me off and I really didn't like you very much at all. Try not to do that again.

Ronald Reagan died today, that's pretty sad, although I think he has been living in oblivion for quite a few years now. Alzheimer's disease really sucks. My grandmother had it and I remember how bizarre it was talking to her. The most memorable thing was when she was standing at the bottom of the staircase and asking if she should go up or down. Robert's in bed watching news about it, no doubt. He was teary eyed and saying what a great president he had been. Reagan's really the first president I remember, although I have faint memories of Jimmy Carter and the peanuts and all that.

In spite of all the craziness here today, we had a delicious dinner. Robert did a chicken on the rotisserie on the new grill and I made an awesome salad with leftover steak from the first night's BBQ, mesclun, avocado, fresh corn and some tomatoes. It was YUMMY.

I think I keep on writing so I don't have to go into the bedroom and patronize Robert while I'm still pissed off about today. I guess I'll stop now since I honestly have nothing else to really say.

Stopping now.

:-)
