My mother has 2 shih tzu dogs. They are very overweight and pretty gross to be around, but are extremely sweet nonetheless. My mother has never bothered to train any of her dogs. So, naturally, they pee all over her apartment. For some reason, the suddenly bothers her, after many years of me refusing to come over and more adamantly since Laszlo's been born. She decided to put the dogs to sleep. Not because they are sick or because she can't take care of them, but basically because she never bothered training them. She was going to actually drive these 2 pups to the vet and pay him to kill them. I've been sick for 2 days over it, but we already have 2 dogs, plus 2 kids - and I really don't need to start training her dogs. I called a bunch of local shelters, but my mother was claiming that she could not deal with the 2 week wait most of them have.
Today I spoke to her and she said she found a place called "Seniors for Seniors" that matches dogs over 6 with a senior citizen. Sounds perfect. I hope she's really doing this and not just telling me she's doing it so I still speak to her. She actually had the balls to say to me yesterday, "I don't need your judgment with this, I need your support." Well, um, ok...don't kill the dogs and you'll have my support. Ass.
Anyway, looks like they got their pardons. So Daisy and Zoie are going to live with some old folks. Oh, and this older woman who runs the organization will RE-TRAIN the dogs, as they should have been trained in the first place. So of course I'm thinking, if she can do it why can't my mother. Whatever. I'm disgusted.
Disgusted, but relieved.
