What Should We Do?
Nov. 23rd, 2004 02:40 pmSo,
I have this friend Steve that I met about 15 years ago while taking a summer course at Parsons School of Design in NYC. We became really good friends, but mostly on the phone and then email and IM. We haven't seen each other in years and he now lives in Florida with his fiancee.
Somewhere in the middle of meeting him and his upcoming wedding, he created and sold an Internet company for tens of millions of dollars.
We received the wedding invitation yesterday. He's getting married at Mar-a-Lago (Donald Trump's fancy shmancy place in Florida) - and apparently "The Donald" will be attending the cocktail party. Not only that, but Kool and the Gang are the musical entertainment.
Flying is out of the question, it's just too much hassle with the kids - not to mention the expense of at least 3 tickets round trip.
So, we're thinking about driving down. Robert found this article online about a great route, which takes a few more hours total but is more scenic and makes the whole thing more of a "vacation" than just a "trip." Our kids have been great car travelers, thus far, but I'm a bit nervous about taking on such a tremendous trip with them.
Another bonus about going down is I can *finally* meet one of my best friends face to face. I met her online when I was first using injectible medications to get pregnant with Laszlo. We speak on the phone at least a few times a week and we're very close. She lives about a half hour from where we'd be staying in Florida.
What should we do? Do we take the time to do this gigantic trip? Or do we politely decline and send a nice gift? It would be a shame to miss such a cool party. Not like I get invited to things like this too often!
The other factor is that money's pretty tight right now and no matter how we cut it, this is still going to cost us a few grand.
Hmmmmm...how many of you are on the eastern seabord south of New York?

And in other news...
Nov. 23rd, 2004 10:55 pm...Lily Bean got her first tooth today. It's on the bottom on her right side, just peeking over the gums. Within a week or two she'll have that lil baby grin with those 2 tiny teeth sticking out. She's growing so fast, it's so beautiful and so heartbreaking at the same time.
Laszlo took some crazy pills today when I wasn't looking, because it's almost 11:30 pm and he's still bouncing around in his room. He knew he was making me crazy before and once he *finally* calmed down he came over to me and started giving me this look. Sorta like, "I'm sorry I made you so fucking crazy before, Mommy." I only half fell for it.
