Robert's been sick for a few days, and I just assumed it was the same cold that the kids and I had last week. He went to work yesterday and came home feeling horrible. He stayed home again today (which is totally unlike him, this is only his third sick day in the 4 years he's been at this job). Luckily, he went to the doctor. I was still poo poo-ing it, thinking it was just a cold and he's being a big baby. Turns out he has pneumonia. The doctor took his blood just to check his counts and called back later to say that he's really sick, that his white cell count was 20,000 - that normal white cell count is around 10,000 and that they consider 14-15,000 elevated. The doctor told him over the phone that if he was 60 or older that they would have admitted him to the hospital with counts like that.

I feel pretty bad that I wasn't that sympathetic. I was actually nicer than usual, because I just felt like it...and now I'm really glad that I was. He's a total baby when he's sick, but thankfully he rarely gets sick, and this is pretty bad. I disinfected the whole basement so that's where I'm sleeping at least tonight, maybe tomorrow night too. I don't think I can catch it, but I don't want to risk getting sick again. He doesn't go into the kids' rooms too often, so I just did a quick Lysol spray over their cribs this afternoon. I washed all Robert's laundry in hot water. I'm not usually this neurotic about germs, but this winter has been *horrible* for everyone we know with regards to illness and I want to avoid as much as I can. I so can't wait for spring. I can't remember a colder, snowier winter in my life. Ick.

Too bad the computer isn't in the basement!
