I'm taking Lily to the ENT in about an hour. I'm nervous because I'm afraid they'll hurt her or worse that they'll want to operate. She's had an ear infection for over a month and been on FOUR different antibiotics with no relief. The pediatrician said that her hearing in that ear is compromised - but totally reversible.

She's always coughing and boogery...I just want this to be over without her experiencing any pain.

Wish us luck. The appointment is at 11:30 and if all goes well we'll be heading out to lunch afterward with a brief stop at The Dollar Tree to let her pick out a bunch of crap that will put her in a good mood.

We were all in bed watching our nightly episode of Spongebob. I told Laszlo that I had done some research and that Spongebob was originally going to be called Spongeboy, but that name was already taken.

He thought for a second and said, "Why does it have to be unique?"

I mean, come ON.

So Robert and I were talking about how smart he was, and he was saying how he's as smart as a grown up (he's totally fixated on being a grown up lately, I think it's because his birthday is so soon) - and Lily chimes in and says, "Usually I'm not smart."

She had no idea what she was saying, but it was really funny. Poor Lily. She IS smart though, just in a totally different way.

I took Lily to the doctor. He was great. I thought she'd be afraid of him because he keeps this light on his head like a mine worker, but I saw him before and told her about it, so she wasn't startled when he walked in with the apparatus on. He was very soft spoken and gentle.

He took a brief history and then looked in her ears. Then he put some numbing spray in one nostril and put this long light/camera thing in, which took all of 45 seconds. I was impressed. Lily barely squirmed at all.

Then they did a hearing test. The audiologist asked Lily what her favorite food was (so she could say it whenever she heard the beep) and she said, "Bacon!" That's my girl.

Her hearing is totally fine, even in the ear with the fluid.

The doctor said that it can take months for all the fluid to resolve after an ear infection, and that he didn't want to put her on yet another antibiotic. He said he wants to see her again in 2 months. And that's that.

Yay.
