Today was one of those days where things just made me smile.
Started off talking to this kickass web developer who basically agreed to work with me. I was blown away by her design so I'm really rather excited.
Then went to Michael's craft store to buy some black oak tag to photograph my stuff on (on the advice of said web designer) and managed to buy a few other things too. I found these small organza drawstring bags for a dollar each and I'm going to offer that as a packaging for the garments I'm making. I think it gives it a lovely finishing touch. I will find sources to get them cheaper, but for now this is fine.
At the checkout line, I was holding Lily and Laszlo was in the stroller...the basket full of stuff was in the stroller on Lily's side. There was an older woman behind me flirting with Lily. She said, "Oh my, look at those cheeks!" To which I gave my standard response, "You should see her thighs!" Then she said, "What are you feeding her?" So I said loudly and proudly, "BREASTMILK." The woman nodded her approval and some other women online turned to look at me...guess I said it a bit too loudly and proudly!
Then we went to Kohl's, since it's in the same shopping center and I wanted to get Lily some more onesies. They didn't have her size in those packaged Carter's onesies, but I got her some socks and then walked through the shoe department on our way to the register. We spotted these awesome Elmo sneakers for Laszlo. I think I was more excited than he was. They are white with navy blue trim, and have an elmo on the side...they also have "1, 2, 3" on the side and it lights up! On the tongue of the shoe it has "A, B, C" and Elmo's teddy on the back of the heel. They were marked $24.99, but I was getting them anyway because they were like the perfect shoe for my boy. Got the register, some older man started chatting us up, he was so pleasant. He asked how old Laszlo was - basically ignoring Lily, which doesn't happen often and I have to say I appreciate it. He shared some stories about his wife and made the time on the line go fast. Then when it was my turn to check out, the woman in front of me gave me a coupon for %30 off the entire purchase! Woo hoo! The sneakers were marked down to $14.99 and then I got %30 off THAT! Score!
The cashier frowned at me when I told her I was going to give the coupon to the next woman on line, so I walked to the other side of the store where there are more registers and found a young mom with a bunch of stuff and said, "Someone just gave me this and I saved %30, so I wanted to pass it on to someone else to save." She thanked me and was really happy. Score again!
In freecycle news (listening, Molly?) I posted 25 pairs of Lily's socks. Most of them were worn once or twice and some not at all. A few were Laszlo's but still in great condition. The woman that responded told me she was going to an orphanage in Russia in the very near future and this is just the kind of stuff she needed to bring. I dug up some more stuff for her and she came by last night to pick it up. She's adopting a baby, we got to talking. I invited her in. Turns out we went to the same fertility doctor *and* she now teaches at my old high school. Really nice woman. Hopefully we will stay in touch.
So, for this immediate moment...dare I say that all is right in my world. No worries, it won't last for long.
