lalicopa | This is why I love freecycle

We are giving the kids a computer for the holidays and we have moved around some furniture to accommodate it in the living room. I took out the mosaic table I did a couple of years ago (it was hidden behind the couch) and moved some other stuff around the house. I was left with a coffee table, an office chair, a small table that I mosaic tiled when Laszlo was a baby, and an ugly candlestick. I didn't bother posting the chair and table on freecycle, but I put the table on because 1) it is a good table and 2) I wasn't sure the garbage men would take it because it's kinda big.

A few people responded and asked for pictures, then none of them wrote back after they got them. Then another woman wrote tonight and said that she could pick it up whenever was good for me. She came over with her daughter and was so grateful. She said, "It's perfect, it's a temporary fix." I got the feeling that they are down on their luck, maybe they moved out of their home or something. I heard them outside a few minutes after she took the table and then saw that they were taking the chair and table too. The mom knocked on the door and said, "I didn't want to be rude. I saw that you put the table and the chair out, I hope it's ok if we took that too." I told her I was thrilled that she was taking it and that they should use them well.

I went through a phase where I was really into freecycling, but I stopped because I didn't have anymore stuff to get rid of and because the stuff I was picking up was basically crap. I've given stuff to people who "needed" stuff before, but it never felt like this did. I feel like I did a good deed today.
