lalicopaThe night I was giving myself my first injection to attempt to get pregnant with my first baby (in 2000?!?!?) I went online to find some information and browse some support groups. I posted a few messages and got a response from a girl named Ali living in Florida. She was on AOL, so we started IMing right away and she actually gave me her number to call her that night. We ended up chatting for a while. She had become pregnant and miscarried.
We started a long friendship. It went from just a person to bounce information off of to someone I spoke to on the phone every day, several times a day. When Laszlo was born, she sent me a huge box of stuff she had been collecting from the time I found out he was a boy. She still wasn't able to get pregnant and was pursuing surrogacy and open adoption.
During my pregnancy with Lily, Ali was working with an agency in California and getting to know a birth mother. Lily was born March 13 and Bailey was born in late April of 2004. Ali was in the delivery room and cut the cord. Then she and her husband took Bailey home to Florida.
Robert went to Miami for some work thing a couple of years ago and he had lunch with Ali and Bailey.
I still never met her. Our friendship is still strong, but we don't talk as often because we're both so busy with our kids.
Ali's husband comes to NY a few times a year for business and she has always mentioned the possibility of coming up. A few weeks ago, she called me and told me that she thinks she may come. I didn't give it too much attention because I've gotten that phone call before. Then she emailed me and said that her hubby got the tickets!
On Thursday I'm taking Lily and Laszlo (keeping him out of school that day) to NYC to meet Ali and Bailey! I'm so excited. I'm leaving Ella with the babysitter that day, luckily it fell on a Thursday. Still not sure whether I'm driving or taking the train into the city, but either way, we're going to meet at Toys R Us in Times Square and then have lunch and probably go to Central Park depending on the weather.
Laszlo has strep, but he started his antibiotic today. My throat is sore and if it's any worse tomorrow, I'm zipping over to my doctor, because I won't miss this for anything!
