Something's wrong with me

Mentally, that is...
My friend Sheryl was over the other day and she was looking through my stock. She chose a dress to bring to a birthday party she was attending for two little girls. The younger girl just turned two.
Sheryl gave her this dress. The little girl loved it so much she insisted on putting it on right away. I hear this a lot when kids receive my stuff as gifts. It's usually the dresses, but it happens with other stuff and even with boys.
And yet, I'm still not motivated to go back into business. I don't know what it's going to take. I don't know what my problem is. I have more than $500 worth of new stock, washed and ready to dye, and it's just sitting neatly in all the clear bins (yes, Katie) organized by size and season.

Sheryl said if this doesn't motivate me, she doesn't know what will.

Date: 2008-06-23 04:26 pm (UTC)maybe we could have a dye a long, like the knitters do with knit a longs? You are one of my favorite people ever to talk about dyeing with and to look at your stuff, so really you should be making more. :P

On the other hand, sometimes just getting started and pushing through is what's called for. You could try to force it and accept that the first few items might not be inspired as you'd like them to be.
Either way, it's in you. It's deep down, it's evolving, and it will be back strong as ever. Someday.

Date: 2008-06-23 07:26 pm (UTC)I *am* planning on cleaning out the basement which houses my work area...I even did it last week, but then Lily had two playdates over and they WRECKED the joint. So now I have to put away a zillion Polly Pockets, all while making sure Ella is nowhere in sight.
Ah, life with three kids.

ETA: no doubt, your skillz have not waned! I mean, work without inspiration until the creative spirit comes back. It'll come back, probably whether your work or not, but working sometimes brings it sooner.

Date: 2008-06-23 08:04 pm (UTC)My sister in law in California sent us all my niece's old Polly stuff...which included about a zillion microscopic shoes. Lily knows not to take them out and certainly not to dump them, but she's so easily swayed by her friends and her one friend truly enjoys wrecking our house.
