Feeling sad

Anyone remember my friend Ivy? The one who I was best friends with a then she told me that "something must be wrong" with Laszlo because he couldn't tolerate her son's first birthday party? (Here's the first part of the story if you feel like reading it.)

Anyway, things have still been rocky in our friendship, but I heard that her dad was "going for some tests" last week and I called her to check in. She wrote me an email saying that she is sorry she didn't get back to me, but that things are really bad for her right now and that she hasn't felt like talking to anyone. And she said she'd call me at the end of the week. Signed it, "Love, Ivy" which in itself, was kinda out of character.

I left her a message on her cell phone last night after getting the email just saying I was concerned and that she could call or email me any time to just let me know what was going on. Of course I had one of my dreams last night that her dad was dying and that I was being supportive of her and that she said something like, "Why are you being so nice to me when I was such a bitch?"

I heard back from her this morning. Her dad has lung cancer. They just found out and she was on her way to the oncologist with him (he was out of the car when she called me). She's extremely close with her dad. She also said that her mother in law was *also* diagnosed with lung cancer and that her grandmother (father's mother) had a stroke last week. Talk about things happening in 3's. I feel so badly. I couldn't stop crying when I hung up with her. I told her I'm here for her in any way she needs me to be. I hope she takes advantage of that. I would hate to think that she's hurting and needing and forces herself to hold back because of some stupid bullshit that she said months ago.

Just feeling really sad for her, and it's pushing all my daddy buttons.
