I HATE having things linked to an album. Particularly if you have to sign up to view it, or enter someone else's user name and password. I never do it. It sounds whiney, but that's too much work.... LJ cut doesn't hurt anyone, so I say that's safest, plus it makes it easy for people who WANT to see, to see.
Obviously if there's SCADS of pictures and linking them all is hard work, I'm happy to go to another service (if you've set one up for family) to see the rest. But since you asked my *preference*, that would be for a dozen pictures or so behind an LJ-cut. ;)
