Today at Gymboree there was a new mom with an adorable chubby-faced 8 month old boy. We were chatting a little bit. She said, "Well, I'm still breastfeeding" about something that was happening in the conversation (other moms were in on it too), so I said, "Me too." She said, "Wow, really? How old is your daughter?" I told her Lily just turned one. She said, "That's great, so few moms breastfeed past a year." Then she went on to tell me how she pumps because she works, how her son has never had formula, how she can't give him a bottle because he won't take it from her, but he'll take it from her husband. She told me that she nursed her daughter until she was 13 months old. I was curious so I asked what she did for a living. She's an ER pediatric doctor! How freakin' cool is that?! I hope she makes it to more classes that we're in, because it was just so refreshing to meet a mom who intends on extended breastfeeding, who is intelligent, and hey - it never hurts to be friends with a pediatric emergency specialist, right?
I decided I'm going to try the local Goodwill to see if they have any overalls I can purchase on the cheap. I'm going to bring a bunch of stuff to donate as well, so I don't feel like I'm being greedy. :-) Not sure how Goodwill works actually, if they use the profits from the sales to benefit charity or if they offer low priced items for people who cannot afford more than that. Hmmm, maybe I'll actually research that a lil bit when I'm done with this post. (Just checked, the profits from sales go to job training people "with disabilities and other disadvantages" - so I'm actually doing good by shopping there, whew!)
Still didn't get around to uploading the pictures to photobucket, I'll try to do it tomorrow...I know you're all on the edges of your seats - NOT.
I know there was something else I wanted to say, but it's totally escaping me at the moment. Will add more later if I recall.
Anyone have any gently used plain denim overalls they wanna sell me? ;-)

Date: 2005-03-22 03:20 am (UTC)Probably not plain, and most of the stuff under 12 months has been given away already, but I'll scrounge about and see what I've got later this week. (Pester me if too much time goes by and I haven't posted a "how's this" or a "got nothing" reply.)
