Well, it appears, upon a ton of research and speaking with several wildlife rehabilitators, that our lil bird is a house sparrow. We thought she was a starling for a while, but she's not. House sparrows are not protected because they are not domestic birds, so we're allowed to keep her as a pet. Some people actually steal them from their nests to have them as pets! In any case, her life expectancy in the wild does not pass 16 months, but in captivity she can live up to 10 years. Once I was told that, it was a no brainer. We got her a nice cage last night and I bought her some hand feeding formula (since the crap I'd been feeding her smelled awful!) and she's doing great.

I think her name is Jean, since we don't know her gender and since the woman who cooked her the first egg was our old neighbor Jean. We'll see.

We're going to Robert's old coworker's house for a BBQ today, although the forecast is horrible. I'm not terribly looking forward to it, but there will be kids that Laszlo and I can play with (anything to avoid adult dribble conversation).

Also, Laszlo is doing SO much better socially. We went to a playdate with 4 other kids his age and Lily and another infant and he did great. He played, didn't cry for me when I was in the kitchen having lunch and didn't have any of his "episodes" of just screaming and going nuts to go home. Everyone told me it was a phase and I was praying that it was. Thank god they were right! He's still not crazy about birthday parties, but who the heck can blame him.
